EarthCARE trainings in HPEDSB
November 10, 2008
This fall we have been very busy in HPEDSB making sure everyone has an enthusiastic start to the EarthCARE programme this year.
The trainings had a differentiated approach this year.
Those new to EarthCARE met on October 14th to talk about school goals, activities and learn how to audit their schools. Both Lisa Resmer and Emily Adams, elementary teachers
with HPEDSB led the discussions.
Those more experienced with EarthCARE met on October 21st to talk about how to educate and influence their staff and students as well as their community. The theme for the
trainings was Are you a Critical Consumer? with video clips, slideshows and several interactive activities created to encourage much discussion and laughter.
The Secondary training expanded to include students and staff from Intermediate schools on October 23rd. The training was led by Gayle Miller, Secondary teacher and several of her
EarthCARE students. They provided team-building activities such as build your team flag and led an enthusiastic game of environmental basketball. The goal of the day was to instill
enthusiasm in the EarthCARE teams to they could then do the same at their schools.
The final training was hosted at Bancroft Public School on October 24th. The lead team met in the north to diminish their carbon footprint. During this session, students and staff
engaged in lively discussion about critical consumerism.
Thank you to all those who assisted with the planning and implementing the plan…
All in all the trainings were a huge success!
