Principal McDonnell tells HPRDSB's Environmental and Energy Technoligist Darleen Wolters-Sword that EarthCARE team at Athol Central is both enthusiastic and energetic!
Athol Central Public School Learn about the Climate Crisis!
November 14, 2007
On Monday, November 12th, EarthCARE Coordinator Veronica Ford and the HPEDSB's
Environmental and Energy Technologist, Darleen Wolters-Sword presented information
regarding the Climate Crisis and how we can do our part to avert this crisis
to a group of grade 4-8 students. By focusing on energy and water conservation
and waste reduction, the students were told that even if we all do just a little,
together it would add up to a much bigger change in our environment.
Principal, McDonnell said that Athol Central has an excellent EarthCARE team and that they have been very eager and interested in making a difference. The staff and students have shown a high level of commitment both to caring about the environment within the school as well as
the broader community in the past two years. Linking EarthCARE activities to HAL (Healthy Active Living) has continued to be strong emphasis for the school.
This year the staff and students of Athol Central, under the direction of Mrs.
A. Loney are investigating composting and hope to make an even bigger difference
with this new focus. The staff and students at South Marysburgh Central will
continue their strong focus on recycling by continuing to encourage the "Pack
it in/Pack it out" lunch.
Wow, Athol and South Marysburgh! You are certainly making a difference!
