Breadner has been hard at it this year!

April 16, 2009

Under the direction of Betty Kuhn the students of the PLAN club have been very busy once again this year. PLAN stands for People Learning About Nature according to its founder however, when asked, one of the students proudly announced that the club was called People Looking After Nature. Ms. Kuhn has certainly inspired the students to be environmental stewards.

This year they have had a busy calendar of events. The events have been planned to coincide with the appropriate month. For instance, pumpkin carving took place in October. In January, the students and staff promoted the Green Leaf campaign. Students and staff were given information regarding the importance of recycling plastic and paper. Facts such as: 'One ton (907 kilograms) of recycled paper spares 17 trees' were given each day during morning announcements. The classroom with the best recycling programme then received a plant for the classroom as a reward for their efforts. Congratulations to Grade 8; Grade 1/2; Grade5/6 and the Primary Centre.

During the month of March, a Think Recycle programme was kicked off during an assembly during which the PLAN team wore their recently designed and painted t-shirts. Old cell phones and print cartridges were collected in bins around the community. Results of the campaign were then charted and a reward system was instituted to applaud the hard work of various classrooms.

Other crafts include the making of bird feeders, designing and painting garden stones.

Take a bow, Breadner students and staff for your continuous work!
