Centre Hastings Secondary School on the Cutting Edge!

Student Eric Asselstine approached the Centre Hastings EarthCARE Team recently with a proposal to sell the used oil from the cafeteria fryers to a local businessman. At the time, the school was sending the used oil to Quebec for recycling and they were actually paying for that service.

Richard Wannamaker, the owner and operator of Bunker’s Hideaway, a restaurant in Marmora uses the oil he collects to run his restaurant with a generator fed with bio-diesel for 2-3 hours per day.  During that time he also charges batteries in his restaurant. The batteries help to supply power during the evenings.  He has experienced a 40% decrease in his hydro bill.   That's both a fiscal and an environmental savings!
