Community Connections!

EarthCARE coordinator, Veronica Ford challenged students and staff at each of the Hastings and Prince Edward District schools during the fall training to encourage everyone to 'do their part'.

This year the goal of the EarthCARE teams is to educate others and encourage them to participate in the various activities planned in each of our schools. Reaching outside the school was also a part of the challenge. Making community connections so that we can broaden our influence in this second year of the project was a strong suggestion.

In support of this suggestion, we have recently partnered with the Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit. Shannon Del Grosso, a Health Promoter in the Environmental Health Department would like to work with our staff and students to promote a safe and healthy environment. Ms. Del Grosso offers her support in the form of resources and/or programs in a variety of topic areas that support curricula in Health and Physical Education, and Social Science and Humanities.

Presentations and resources to support topics such as food safety, air and water quality, and infection control (West Nile Virus) are available through Mrs. Del Grosso to support the Health Units' goal of "achieving and maintaining optimal health and learning for our students."
