EarthCARE, An Environmental Education Partnership ™

From Good To Great See Yourself Making a Difference!

February 24, 2006

On Friday, February 3, 2006, HPEDSB's EarthCARE program offered a workshop for custodial employees at their CUPE PD day, held at Quinte Secondary School. The EarthCARE workshop was a part of the Building Operator Training for HPE's custodial employees. It focused on developing strategies to deliver good customer service and build effective teams. The participants learned through activities and scenarios relevant to their workplace. The workshop, delivered by Judy Turriff and Doris Davidson, was active, fun and worthwhile.

The custodians attending the workshop learned, laughed and provided each other with workable solutions to situations they meet each day: how to prioritize multiple requests; what to do in crises and time crunches; how to make sure they are heard as valued members of their school team and why it is critical they are on that team. They developed strategies to build strong school teams and to provide a welcoming school environment for students, staff and visitors.

Doris and Judy appreciated the constructive attitudes of the custodians and their positive feedback at the close of the session. The workshop itself was an example of a team coming together quickly and working together for quality customer service.
