Decreasing Our Carbon Footprint!

November 14, 2007

Our Northern schools were not asked to join our EarthCARE trainings in the south this fall. In an attempt to decrease our carbon footprint, the presenters car-pooled and headed to Maynooth Public School where they were joined by teams from Bancroft Public, Birds Creek, Herman, and CoeHill schools.

As in the southern trainings, Emily Adams, teacher from Frankford Public School led the groups in an activity critiquing potential environmental library books. Lisa Resmer, teacher and coordinator from CoeHill Public School, shared many valuable teacher resources and websites.

A local expert from Greenview Environmental, Tyler Peters spoke with the students and staff about composting and recycling. He helped the students become better sorters and talked about the basics of 'getting started' with composting projects at the schools.

School goals and possible activities in the areas of energy, water and waste were decided upon and shared with the larger group. The Northern schools were enthusiastic and eager to once again 'make a difference'!
