Our December Character Trait... Caring, and World Vision

January 28, 2011

EarthCARE lead teacher from Herman Public School, Gerarda Wagenmaker submitted the following to the school newsletter for the months of December and January.

In the spirit of the season and to support our character trait of caring, the Hermon staff would like to invite you to share with us and our students in a meaningful international project. In keeping with our Earthcare focus, we would like to collect money to go towards providing clean drinking water for children and their families around the world through World Vision. World Vision is a relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Donations to this cause will be gratefully accepted at our Christmas Concert. The proceeds of our Christmas Basket Raffle will also help us provide clean drinking water to families who do not have this luxury. Please join us in making this world a better place to live and help our students to become caring citizens of the world.

January... Together we made a difference!

Thanks to all the students, staff and families who donated to our Christmas Giving Fund. The students set a goal of raising $200 for World Vision. With student donations, donations at the Christmas Concert and the Christmas Basket Raffle we raised just over $200.00! With this money, two wells were purchased providing safe water for families in developing countries, to protect children from guinea worm, cholera, typhoid, trachoma and other waterborne diseases.
