Hillcrest Assembly Celebrates EarthCARE!
November 12, 2006
The staff and students at Hillcrest Public School are excited once again to encourage everyone to participate in the EarthCARE program during its second year with Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
The goals of:
- Reducing garbage,
- Encouraging everyone to use Litterless Lunches, &
- Reducing paper use in classrooms were very successful last year.
Despite this success, the students feel that these goals need continued attention for the school year 2006-2007. The addition of another goal:
- Removing items from blocked heaters will enhance their existing great program.
Under the direction of Mr. J. Kirby, the Hillcrest EarthCARE coordinator and
the EarthCARE Critters- Grade 5 students: Clay, Miriam, Brittany, Charlotte
and Sidney, everyone will be reminded of the goals and commitment to 'do better'
this year. Daily announcements will be made to encourage responsible caring
behaviour.
Miriam wants everyone to 'Remember to always try to bring containers for their
lunches to school as much as possible.'
Clay reminds us 'not to put glass bottles in the garbage for safety reasons as
they will shatter, and for environmental reasons as we need to continue to
recycle glass.'
And finally, Brittany says 'Try not to put recycling in the garbage and garbage
in the recycling.'
We know that Hillcrest will make a difference this school year!
