EarthCARE, An Environmental Education Partnership ™

Maynooth Students, Megan and Jasmine Report Schools Progress....

April 30, 2010

Our EarthCARE team has been doing as much as we can to help our school be more ‘green’. We have had many activities to get our school interested in helping our one and only earth. Activities include: our GPS crew (Garbage Picker Society), composters, litter-less lunches, boomerang lunches, newsletters, presentations, reduction of appliances, and field trips. On the field trip all students will be going to the community dump then touring Green Tec in order to have a better understanding of how this facility can reduce our landfill. On Earth day all students will be involved in a community clean-up (school yard and the town of Maynooth.) We are also going to plant a Maynooth Butterfly Garden. With our compost we will be designing a Butterfly Garden to beautify the front of our school and to attract butterflies. Also, on our audit at our school, we found that only one little piece of garbage was in the recycling out of the WHOLE school, and out of 199 lights, only 4 were on unnecessarily. Our earth care team went through everything on the list and our participation levels were high.
