Moira Secondary Students Assist in Annual River Clean Up

November 19, 2007

On September 29, a team of Moira Secondary Students dug deep into the Moira River to remove garbage as part of the annual Moira River clean up.

A long running tradition, Moira students once again scoured the river near Victoria Park to do their part for the environment. Excited students easily pulled out smaller objects like pop cans and plastic bottles and with the aid of canoes, reached into the heart of the river to retrieve larger objects like shopping carts and bicycles.

Quinte Conservation was the organizing partner behind the cleanup. This year the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board was well represented by Moira Secondary and the Adventure Class from Queen Victoria Elementary School.

Students were eager to participate in this community environmental project. Grade 11 student Ashley M. said, "I'm just happy that I can do a little something now for our future environment."

Moira students are continuing their environmental efforts back at the school as part of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board EarthCARE initiatives.
