The EarthCARE team from North Hastings High School under the guidance of Amy Thompson, one of the team leaders, decided to construct a garden in memory of the students who had passed away both in the past and during this current year. The staff and students felt it was a way for
students to remember and communicate their feelings of lost ones. Two students on the EarthCARE committee created the design; others went price shopping; and others went donation shopping. The mulch and topsoil and most of the plants were donated.
As soon as people heard that the students were creating this garden then lots of other people came on board. The team started the garden on Saturday June 9 and finished it on June 14. The first day they built the wall and filled it in with dirt, an arbor and some plants. They were
lucky to have a landscaper from the community offer to help. He lost a sister this year and both he and his mother pitched in. They felt it was an amazing way to remember their sister/daughter. When the garden was finished everyone was excited. The Earthcare committee was very
successful in creating a sanctuary for our school.
