Park Dale Staff & Students Making Plans for this School Year!

January 20, 2009

Team leader, Principal Heather Rutherford has many plans for the EarthCARE team at ParkDale school this year.

Promoting 'walking to school', Litterless Lunches, and reminding others that Park Dale is an environmentally conscious school are the three major goals set out by the staff and students this year.

Rutherford hopes to engage in discussions with Belleville's Mayor Ellis to elicit his help and support re: the “Walk to School” campaign. Not only will it benefit the environment, it will also benefit the health of her students. Starting with a 'Walk on Wednesdays' promotion and then working into a 'Stop at the end of Poplar' campaign will be two of the possibilities. Articles in the school newsletter and signage throughout the school will help to educate and heighten awareness of the school community.

Litterless Lunches will also be a strong focus, especially during the months of January and February. Classroom challenges, random checks and lots of prizes and certificates will help promote this initiative. Infomercials produced by the students should also help inform.

The recent purchase of EarthCARE t-shirts is another reminder that ParkDale is an EarthCARE school with lots to contribute. Great job, ParkDale staff and students!
