The Canadian Arctic is most ‘at risk’ for climate
change. Melting ice, shifting animal populations and the disappearance
of their ice-related culture cause for concern.
The South Pacific Islands are the second most 'at risk' environment
for climate change according to the UN conference on Climate
Change.
Prince of Wales Celebrates a New Year of EarthCARE with Renewed Enthusiasm!
December 19, 2006
Veronica Ford, EarthCARE Coordinator and Darleen Wolters-Sword engaged students
in a lively discussion regarding the state of the Earth today. In a Primary
Assembly with students ranging from Kindergarten age to Grade 3, students were
encouraged to 'make a difference' with small steps. The Starfish story was
shared and students were encouraged to classify garbage and recyled materials.
Climate changes were the focus for the Junior and Intermediate Assembly. Students
were challenged with the question of how they might help. By recycling, reducing
and reusing, staff and students were encouraged that they could make a difference
to 'at risk' cultures such as the Canadian Arctic and the South Pacific Islands.
Prince of Wales students and staff are committed to 'make a difference' by improving
their recycling program this year. We know you can do it POW!
