Energy Conservation Savings at Queen Elizabeth Public School in Picton,
Ontario
June 6, 2006
The EarthCARE team at Queen Elizabeth Public School in Picton, including Team coordinator, Mindru Christian, and Custodians, Pat Johnson, Greg Legere and Bert Reid decided to save energy by removing bulbs in the library open area, a space that includes the library, 5 classrooms and 4 hallways.
Custodian Bert Reid said "A little bit of thought goes a long way. Hydro is going
to continue to increase and so it's important to continue to be innovative and
get everyone to help out."
From the 167 banks of lights in the library open area, 334 bulbs were removed yet there is still plenty of light. According to Darleen Wolters-Sword, HPEDSB Environmental Technologist predicts that this will likely provide an energy savings of $1117.44 annually.
Not only are they saving energy at QEP, they are planting and mulching the gardens,
selling hotdogs to purchase soil, making EarthCARE displays and providing trophy
incentives for a job well done with the recycling initiative. Custodian Reid
said "It all makes a big difference!"
