Queen Elizabeth School (Trenton) Staff and Students Have Many Plans in Place!
January 19, 2009
Teacher, Clinton Breau is pleased that he is leading the EarthCARE team for the second year in a row. He feels that he is able to 'definitely see an improvement' with the involvement of both staff and students. By meeting with his team every two weeks progress can be monitored and assessed continually. The recent purchase of EarthCARE t-shirts acts as a visible reminder to others that 'together we can make a difference'.
EarthCARE projects are planned to include the main school environmental goals. It is also important to plan the Calendar of Events with their twinned school partner, North Trenton.
With a quick review, students "caught on very quickly" to the EarthCARE focus in the early fall LOCO – Lights Off, Computers Off! This will continue to be an ongoing focus throughout the school year.
The next focus is the Boomerang Lunch. A large part of this initiative will be on education, both for students as well as their parents. By placing articles in the school newsletters, Breau is hoping that parents will see the benefits of waste reduction and understand the health component of this initiative.
Continual garbage/recycling spot checks with the help of school custodian, Carol Richardson, have benefited all with a reported waste reduction.
With their strong commitment and enthusiasm, Queen Elizabeth school can certainly 'make a difference'.
