Under the direction of Mr. Vanderwal, students from Queen Elizabeth School held an EarthCARE assembly for the whole student body on Friday, November 5th.

Students Alicia, Baylee and Brianna kicked off the assembly with a slideshow they had created. It showed the many tragedies we have inflicted by not taking care of our earth…litter, pollution, global warming, endangered habitats etc.

Mrs. Ford, EarthCARE coordinator for HPEDSB thanked the students for inviting her to their assembly and also thanked them for working so hard on many EarthCARE activities in the past year. She reminded the students that their hard work not only helped the planet, but also rewarded them with $1200. 00 in gain sharing.

Briana and Alicia led an EarthCARE quiz and many prizes were awarded to those students with the correct responses. The assembly closed with a challenge from Mr. Vanderwal- to do even more than last year!

The school will continue with the Monthly Trash Bashes where the school-yard is cleaned by teams of students. A Litterless Lunch event recently reduced the amount of garbage generated by the students to 1/2 a bag in one day. Based on that success story, the goal is to have every day, a Litterless Lunch day. Thirdly, Mr. Vanderwal encouraged everyone to reduce plastic water bottle use and start using reusable water containers.

The students were encouraged with the closing remark of "Everything you do can make a difference".

Well done, Queen Elizabeth staff and students!
