Quinte Secondary Hard at It!

January 19, 2009

Quinte Secondary students under the leadership of teacher, Sarah Hercus have participated and are planning to participate in many more projects during this school year…

Their first project was a huge success. One Million Acts of Green, the challenge put forward by George Strombopoulos, was met with great enthusiasm. Together more than 250 students registered 3,252 'acts of green'. The winning students were awarded EarthCARE stainless steel water bottles, donuts, EarthCARE pencils etc.

Next, the staff and students are looking at a variety of projects with the hope that environmental awareness will be increased.

A challenge for homerooms to compete against each other by picking up one piece of garbage a day is in the near future. Students and staff will be asked to pick up one piece of garbage each day for a period of time both in the school area as well as in the school community.

Adopting part of a road, tree planting on Earth Day, composting, wearing Green on 'Green Day' and helping to finance a well for the Free the Children Foundation are just some of the ideas staff and students.

Way to go, Quinte!
