Recently, the annual Quinte Waste Solutions calendar was delivered to the residents of the Quinte area. This valuable resource is sent out annually to remind everyone to continue to focus attention on the three "Rs" – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. As indicated in the calendar, often we spend our energy and enthusiasm on recycling, composting and hazardous waste programmes often overlooking the very important waste reduction activity of Reusing.

Marvin Tucker, head of Marketing for Quinte Waste Solutions has made available to each of our schools in Hastings and Prince Edward District a copy of the calendar as it can be used as an inspiration for future school activities as well as a resource for Newsletter ideas and information for staff, students and parents…

Some of the suggested activities and/or ideas include:

Reuseable cloth bags
The travel mug
Reusing and recycling construction waste
Re-using free paint
Re-using appliances, books, electronics, batteries, & clothing
Litterless Lunches and
Secondhand sports swaps

The resources suggested include www.freecycle.org and a programme called 'Return to Vendor'. This programme lists many local businesses that have agreed to become an important part of the effort to reduce waste in Quinte. These environmentally minded-businesses have agreed to accept items returned to them for safe disposal or for reuse.
