"Sir Mac" Program Encourages Student Leadership!

February 15, 2007

Sir Mackenzie Bowell, a middle school with a student population of 179 students is strongly encouraging student leadership during the school year 2006-2007. Their "Sir Mac" program encourages students in all aspects of student life: participation, athletics, academics, goal setting, volunteerism and citizenship. Student committees with a focus on leadership opportunities link programs such as: Respect and Responsibility; Healthy Active Living; and EarthCARE.

Under the direction of Principal Delarge and student leaders, Tanner and Haley, the school will undertake two major projects this year; major yard cleanups and their recycling program. Custodian Doug Thorn will continue to work with the students as they enhance their existing recycling program.

During the first term, training and planning were the priorities. During the second term, the focus will be Litterless Lunches. Finally during the third term, school-yard and community clean ups will take priority when the school partners with the local A&P at the Loyalist Plaza.

You can make a difference this year, SMB!
