On November 8 2005, noted environmentalist and broadcaster Dr. David Suzuki delivered the keynote speech at "You Matter! Respect & Responsibility in Our Community", an event held in Belleville, Ontario that launched EarthCARE in the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB).
Following his speech, which focused on the need to prepare for the future by examining climate-change issues in the present, Dr. Suzuki answered a variety of questions from students and the media. The event concluded with a book-signing and a luncheon.
All on hand agreed that the event was a tremendous success, both in terms of introducing EarthCARE to the HPEDSB and in terms of inspiring the audience to do their part in affecting positive environmental change.
