V.P. Carswell is a Strong and Mighty Recycling School!
July 8, 2006
A student run recycling program has been very strong at V.P. Carswell School
this year. Each classroom, office, and staffroom was given a blue box and
paper-recycling bag. It was not uncommon for these receptacles to be full to
over flowing in a week's time. Students and staff worked together to make sure
all containers and cans are rinsed out completely and recycled.
Kate Beckenham, the EarthCARE Coordinator noted that "there has definitely been
an increase in the recycling at V.P. Carswell this year thanks to increased
awareness by participation in the EarthCare Project".
During the month of April, the staff and students focused on Earth Day at V.P.
Carswell. A month long "green card" challenge was issued in which the students
were given a card for good environmental behaviour. Making sure computers were
turned off and lights weren't on when not
needed, reducing garbage as some students worked to bring litter less lunches
to school as much as possible were just some of the ways to gain a 'green card'!
Keep up the great work, V.P. Carswell!
