EarthCARE, An Environmental Education Partnership ™

EarthCARE Coordinators & Building Operators Working Together

58 teachers and custodians, representing 93% of the Hastings and Prince Edward District schools joined together for a ½ day of training on October 21, 2005. The training was offered to prepare EarthCARE teams for the first baseline audit in our School District. The audit will collect information about energy consumption, waste reduction and water conservation.

Linda Lavender, custodian at Coe Hill Public School commented on "a great afternoon of audit training for EarthCARE." She said that "as a pro-active recycler and conserver of energy that she "is delighted to have been chosen as one of the members of her schools EarthCARE team." She added that "she looks forward to seeing the results of the audits and following closely the impact the EarthCARE program has on the conservation of energy here at HPEDSB."

EarthCARE is an action-oriented program focusing on occupant behaviors that affect energy conservation, waste reduction and water conservation. EarthCARE provides a mechanism and process for turning awareness into action and waste into value for the district reducing utility costs by 5-10%.

The baseline audit will be conducted the week of October 31st and will provide us with a starting point in our environmental goals of increased energy conservation and waste reduction. Engaging all stakeholders in EarthCARE activities will help us work towards the goal of a better planet.

…together we can make a difference…
