Susanna Moodie Elementary School Shares Their Innovative Plans!
June 9, 2006
Beth Power, the EarthCARE coordinator and Principal, Gail Brant have many innovative spring plans underway at Susanna Moodie Elementary School. The students are selling EarthCARE bracelets, a visible reminder of environmental caring, to interested staff and students. Money
made from this venture will be used to purchase planters and plantings for each graduating Grade 8 class. When the students move on to their local Secondary School, their memory will be kept through this beautification project.
Earth Day projects included many activities to raise student awareness. Bottle bowling, a game using recyled materials was held at recess time. A pop can castle competition helped instill the idea of reusing materials as well. Birdhouses were made of plastic pop bottles and paper mache piggy banks were made for each division, where EarthCARE donations could be generated.
Although according to teacher Powell the students have been “very active all year” they really wanted to highlight Earth Day week! I’d say you did just that Susanna Moodie!
