Students have many questions - Maria from Queen
Victoria says she would like to know if there is a chemical
for weeds
that makes them go away but does not hurt the environment.
She
suggested that if there wasn't one, then perhaps the students
at Queen
Vic should invent one...
New Teacher Training
October 22, 2007
HPEDSB has taken on a new look this year. In this third year of EarthCARE participation, trainings have been differentiated in an attempt to meet the needs of all our EarthCARE school representatives.
At the recent October 2nd new teacher training, 10 schools were in attendance.
Teams ranged from individual teacher reps to teams with the teacher rep, the
schools custodian and up to 5 students. The agenda covered a variety of topics
such as how to perform an audit; interpreting the audit results and goal setting
for this school year. Several valuable resources were shared. Local experts,
Darleen Wolters-Sword, our Energy and Environmental Technologist and Marvin
Tucker from Quinte Waste Solutions gave support with several possible suggestions.
Kits and possible ideas for projects and presentations were also shared.
During the course of the morning many questions were asked.
- A Marmora Sr. student
asked "What can we do to stop global warming?"
- Jesse from SMB wanted to
know "How
can we make the air cleaner?"
- Pinecrest School wanted to know how to
start a composting program.
- Bayside Public wanted to know how
to decrease the smell in school based composters.
This school year, the challenge to the central team with Project Coordinator,
Veronica Ford is to answer these questions and many more.
Together we can make a difference, HPEDSB!
