Bayshore P.S. EarthCARE Students Develop “Recycling Feedback Cards”

Bayshore Public School has a very active EarthCARE program. Team Leader Jennifer Heckman is proud of the work the students are doing. Earlier this year the students implemented a program to provide feedback to individual classes on the success of their recycling. Students were concerned that recycling bins in too many classes were contaminated unnecessarily. The students developed a series of “Recycling Feedback Cards”. Following the collection of recycling bins at lunch, students leave a feedback card for the classroom indicating the success or lack of success the class has had. There has been a significant improvement in what is recycled throughout the school. This week for example, 6 of the 10 primary classes and 7 of 8 junior classes received well done cards. The Team has made a difference!

Competition, at the EarthCARE Expo Two grade 4 boys, Abdulrahman and Mohamed from Bayshore P.S., entered the Innovation Competition, at the EarthCARE Expo. The boys called their innovation the "Canadian Petrol Ship" and they chose to build this project for the "fun and challenge of learning more about electronics and using that knowledge to help the environment". The boys were present when the judges were examining all the entries. They were able to answer questions from the judges and guests and provided demonstrations on how their innovation worked.
