Bayview's Geoff Raymond Wins EarthCARE Chief Custodian Award
June 10, 2009
The Chief Custodian Award is meant to recognize school custodians who demonstrate a commitment to the environment and a dedication to educating students on environmental issues.
Last month, EarthCARE asked its team leaders for Chief Custodian Award nominations; congratulations to this year's winner, Bayview's Geoff Raymond.
Below is the nomination letter we received from Bayview's EarthCARE/Environmental Club.

Geoff Raymond and the Bayview P.S. EarthCARE/Environmental Club |
Dear EarthCARE,
Our Chief Custodian, Geoff Raymond, shows tremendous dedication educating students and the school community about environmental issues. Geoff has been the leading force behind the
Environment Club for 10 years. He regularly meets with us several times a week. Geoff's enthusiasm and energy motivates students to join this dynamic group; out of the 87 eligible students, typically over 25 students participate!
Geoff organizes school assemblies where students put on original plays with environmental themes ranging from protecting the environment, recycling and empowering children to make a difference. He developed a 'Do the Twist' campaign; students enthusiastically danced the twist to remind us to twist off the water taps. The whole school loved his 'Recycle Shuffle' song
and dance encouraging students to recycle appropriately. He has planted bulbs and trees with students, organized environmental bulletin boards, chalk boards and snow sculptures as teaching tools and assisted with EarthCARE's audit. He produced a podcast on litterless lunches, encouraged students to recycle milk cartons and organized a school-wide participation in Earth Hour
and the Clean up the Capital campaign.
What a role model! Geoff has taught us that our actions, no matter how small, can make a difference.
Sincerely,
The EarthCARE/Environmental Club at Bayview Public School
