What's happening in EarthCARE?

Charles Hulse School is a JK-6 school located in the Alta Vista area of Ottawa. During the school's campaign to provide clean, potable water to a community in Africa, the EarthCARE Club donated $25.00 to the Ryan's Well Foundation. Ryan Hreljac, 14, who began raising money for wells in Africa and Guatemala when he was six, was an inspirational speaker at an assembly in November. Altogether, the school raised $880.00 towards a well in Tanzania.

The school is currently running an 8 week Litterless Lunch Contest. Each class monitors and records whoever brought a Litterless Lunch for five consecutive days. Thirty-nine names were entered into the first draw. Already, staff has noticed many more reusable containers being brought to school for food and drinks, and a remarkable decrease in the amount of classroom garbage being collected at the end of the day. Members of the EarthCARE Club are doing surprise random checks to ensure responsible tracking of results. They distribute tickets to individuals for a weekly draw.

The Club is very pleased with the level of participation.

They can see themselves making a difference!
