EarthCARE Expo 2006 Competition Rules

This year the students of the OCDSB have the option of participating in the following five competitions.

(1) Poetry

Topic: What Does Caring for our Earth Mean to You?
Categories: K - 3, 4 - 6, 7 - 8, 9 - 12
Deadline: Clearly mark submission as EC Expo and send to OCDSB Communications and Information Service Department by Friday April 7th c/o Hyacinth Haddad.
Other: There is a maximum of 12 submissions per school. Include your name, school, and category on the back of the poem.

(2) Still Photography

Topic: A new look at reusing!
Categories: K - 3, 4 - 6, 7 - 8, 9 - 12
Deadline: Clearly mark submission as EC Expo and send to OCDSB Communications and Information Services Department by Friday April 7th c/o Hyacinth Haddad.
Other: There is a maximum of 12 submissions per school. Include your name, school, and category on the back of the photograph.

(3) Cartoon

Topic: "The 3 Rs"
Categories: Elementary and Secondary
Deadline: Clearly mark submission as EC Expo and send to OCDSB Communications and Information Services Department by Friday April 7th c/o Hyacinth Haddad.
Other: There is a maximum of 12 submissions per school.

(4) Sculptures

Topic: Music - Instruments made from recycled materials
Categories: Elementary and Secondary
Deadline: You must pre-register and reserve a space for your entry by Friday April 7th. Your entry needs to be set up and ready for judging by 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2nd at Confederation High School.
Other: With the exception of bonding materials (such as glue, tape and string), all other materials used in the sculpture/instrument must be items destined for the garbage or the recycling. In other words, nothing new should be used in the sculpture/instrument. Your instrument must make music! This may be an individual, group or school project.

(5) Environmental Innovation

Topic: Open
Categories: Elementary and Secondary
Deadline: You must pre-register and reserve a space for your entry by Friday April 7th. Your entry needs to be set up and ready for judging by 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2nd at Confederation High School.
Other: In your presentation, demonstrate how your innovation has had a positive impact on the environment in your community. This may be an individual, group or school project.

**To pre-register and reserve a space for your environmental innovation or sculpture, please send an e-mail to EarthCARE@ocdsb.ca and include your name, your school, and your category.

** Environmental innovations and sculptures are to be set up between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2nd. Entries must be removed at the close of the EXPO which will be approximately 7 pm after the closing remarks.

**There is a possibility that not all works submitted for poetry, still photography, and cartoon competitions will be displayed at the Expo. A list of those entries that will be showcased will be circulated to all schools by Monday, April 24, 2006. No entries will be returned. Schools are asked to keep a copy of their submissions.
