Centre
Did you make an Earth Day Resolution?
May 27, 2006
The students and staff at OTLC were asked this question at their most recent
Earth Day assembly. They were asked to identify something that they were not
doing now and knew that they should or could be doing. Then they were challenged
to make a commitment to 'change' one thing. Many in the school have taken up
the challenge!
Phil Weir, a teacher at Ottawa Technical Learning Centre, is the EarthCARE Team
Leader for the school. Phil is to retire at the end of the school year. His
wish for the future is to have everyone make a similar resolution every Earth
Day and then follow through on it! Phil is proud of the work done by the EarthCARE
Team and the students and staff in the school. When projects are undertaken,
it's not just the Environment Club that gets involved but students and staff
across the school. Composting is a new program at the school. There are now
3 classrooms with vermi-composting and the school is looking into an industrial
sized composting program to take into account the material from their cooking
program and cafeteria. The compost will then be used on the school grounds
to assist in their greening program. OTLC has caught the 'fever' and is making
a difference every day!
