EarthCARE Students in Action
One of the 300 filled jars available in the Jack Donohue school raffle.
Jars, Jars, Jars!!!
March 5, 2006
Jack Donohue is a K-8 school in Kanata. The school has a very active EarthCARE program. One of the activities that demonstrate their commitment to the “3Rs” was one of their fundraising initiatives. It was really unique.
Jars of all shapes and sizes were filled with various things. Some had plants,
beads, teddy bears, cookie mix, and crafts of all kinds. Three hundred filled
jars were donated for a school raffle. For each ticket purchased a number which
corresponded to one of the jars was selected. Parents, staff and students were
able to purchase a jar. What went into the jar was left to the decision of
the person donating the jar. It was a great way for some to “re-gift” no longer wanted materials or share their hobbies and help the school with their fundraising.
Paddy McCavour, Principal of the school, said that the activity was well received by everyone and definitely one that the school will repeat another year. They do see themselves making a difference!
