"The Bear" - Ottawa Technical Learning
Centre's winning EarthCARE sculpture. |
The students at Ottawa Technical Learning Centre have won the sculpture contest at the EarthCARE Expo for a third consecutive time. The sculpture for this year was to design a musical instrument from recycled materials.
When the competition was announced this fall the school team got to work. A number of ideas were put forward, always with a view to “how can we make this work”. OTLC has the good fortune to have a large trades and technology component in the school. Students have the “hands-on”
capability to make ideas happen.
This year more than 15 students were involved in the design and construction of the winner, “The Bear”. The sculpture was made from used wood, old guitar strings, scrap metal pipes, bricks, etc. Yes, it did make music!
