Puppet Show for EarthCARE

By Sophie Vesque

On February 22, 2005, Jennifer Teague, Kayleigh McEwan, and Sophie Vesque went to Merivale Public School with an important message. The message was to be delivered to Mrs. Turner's kindergarten class. These girls were members of the EarthCARE Team and they had come to inform the children about the three Rs: REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE. They did this through the form of a puppet show.

A couple of months before, Mrs. Turner made contact with Valerie Maier of Elizabeth Wyn Wood Alternate Site. Mrs. Turner asked if EWW's EarthCARE Team would be interested in writing and performing a puppet show for her class. The EWW EarthCARE Team went for it.

The girls chose to do two skits, one on recycling and not littering, and one on reducing by reusing. The skits only took about 5 minutes, but the discussion afterwards took about 20 minutes. The children were definitely interested in what the girls had to say.

Through a team effort we were able to spread the valuable lesson of doing good for our earth, and how everyone can play a vital role. All in all, a success for our planet Earth.
