Electricity and Gas Consumption DOWN!
OCDSB Utility Data Tell the Story
January 2, 2007
OCDSB EC Team Leaders were informed that the utility data for 2005 are now available
on the EarthCARE Canada website. The file contains three sheets showing the
consumption and cost details for electricity, natural gas, & water. Also shown
are the HDD (heating degree-days) for 2005 and the average rate for each utility
at the top of each sheet. For the complete set of data, there are two links:
1999 – 2004; and 2005 utility data. View
the data.
The Executive Director of EarthCARE, Rose Marie Batley, was pleased to see the progress being made in the OCDSB.
A comparison of the summary data between 2004 and 2005 shows:
- Electricity consumption dropped 5.44% while the total cost rose only 2.70% with a rate increase of 7.75%.
- Gas consumption dropped 7.15% while the total cost dropped 2.94% with a rate increase of 3.99%.
- Water consumption increased 0.14% while the total cost increased 5.72% with a rate increase of 5.58%.
Thanks to Murali Varahasamy from the Eastern Office of Ameresco Canada Inc. who collated all the data. There are seven years of data available
on the website x school x month x utility. Schools have been encouraged to look at their own data to see how they are doing. Suggestions have also been made to staff to use this data as part of their math programs.
