As part of the 2009 OCDSB EarthCARE Expo, students were invited to create a 60-second podcast and enter it into a board wide competition. Podcast topics included EarthCARE activities such as: litter-less lunches, use of plastic bags and water bottles, recycling, reducing energy and water use, using alternative transportation. The quality of the work was outstanding and keeping them to 60 seconds was a challenge. Superintendents Jennifer Adams and Barrie Hammond had the job of judging; this was no easy task.
Two winning entries were selected, one from an elementary school and one from a secondary school. Both winners were presented with the Ameresco Award at the Expo and later had their podcasts aired on CBC Radio.
