TWIGS Valentine's Day Cake Raffle
March 29, 2010
By Emily Wong, grade 10
What could be better than an entire homemade cake for your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day? TWIGS ran a Valentine's Day-themed cake raffle for the second year running on Thursday, Feb. 11th. The night before the raffle, we all baked cakes and decorated them with icing, chocolate, and candy. They were all gorgeous as you can see for yourself from the pictures. Students and staff alike purchased raffle tickets in the morning and at lunch, and the draw was announced at the end of the day.
We raised $153.91, a considerable amount of money in one day, and raffled off 11 cakes. The money will go towards the purchase of a compact, 3-divider garbage/recycling bin, with one section for glass, one for cans and one for garbage, which we plan to put in the cafeteria in order to eliminate many of the cans and plastic bottles which end up in the garbage.
This is a really good fundraising idea for any group or club. It is an easy way to raise some money and is a fun activity as we all try to out-do one another with the best looking Valentine’s Day cake! I would recommend a cake raffle as a fund-raiser to any other group.
The TWIGS Valentine’s Day cake raffle was not just another average bake sale!
