Seasonal Light Exchange
Ms. Bolotenko, February 12, 2009
Between November 5 and December 5, 2008 in partnership with Hydro Ottawa and EarthCARE, TWIGS advertised, organized and ran a seasonal light exchange. Why? Our goal was to remove as many inefficient and excessive energy-consuming incandescent strings of lights from Glebe’s CI’s student/staff population and from our neighbours in the Glebe community. Did you know that 1000 strings of incandescent lights uses the same amount of energy as it takes to power 2 homes?
In order to reach as many homes as possible, we advertised in the Glebe Community Newspaper, and on the school’s web-site. Hydro Ottawa donated one string of LED seasonal lights for every 2 strings of incandescent lights turned in. In total, TWIGS collected 36 strings of lights, which means that there will be that many fewer lights consuming extra energy. Thank-you to all the staff and members of the community who participated in this worthwhile activity.
