Waste Reduction Week – Sir Robert Borden High School

February 8, 2010

Waste Reduction Week was a weeklong event (Dec 7-11/2009) put on by Sir Robert Borden’s Environmental Club. It was organized to gain awareness about things in school that can be done to help the environment. During this weeklong event, the BASE (Borden Active Students for the Environment) environmental club handed out EarthCARE prizes to students that we saw recycling during lunch hour or class time. We also had prizes for litter free lunches. All the BASE members wore EarthCARE tattoos and were verbally promoting the event all week. Our most popular part of the event was the water bottle exchange where we gave away an EarthCARE canteen to any student that brought in four plastic water bottles. We also wanted to let the younger grades know about the club and what it has to offer. We were very successful in this event as we got many bottles exchanged from the event as well as the increased awareness that many of the club members saw.
