Delivery of In-school Component
Reduce, Re-use, then Recycle
"Before you put something in the recycle bin,
ask yourself: Is it useful?"

The in-school component is at the hub of the EarthCARE program. Those students and
staff in the schools are the front line to making a difference in how we treat our environment and how we respect the earth. At the same time, the EarthCARE program recognizes the need for support in customization and delivery of each board's specific approach to delivery and implementation. Many
stakeholders in the school boards are already practising the behaviours that EarthCARE promotes and encourages.
Aligning with Board Priorities
Aligning EarthCARE with board priorities makes the program a part of the culture, rather than an add-on.
Lessons developed for EarthCARE are aligned with The Ontario Curriculum expectations from K-11 bringing exciting activities into the classroom and giving teachers the tools to develop environmental stewardship
in all of us. Links to relevant websites and opportunities for curriculum enrichment are provided. Visit our Resources Section to view some of these links as well as a detailed list of print and video resources relating to energy, conservation, and environmentalism.
Involving Students
EarthCARE engages young people through discovery-based activities, which require their ingenuity, leadership, creativity, sensibilities, and energy to transform our habit patterns, our behaviours, our
attitudes and our communities. Student-led action is a key goal of this program. Their commitment to making a difference is key to the success of the program and to our ability to live sustainably on our planet.
Connecting with the Child's World
The EarthCARE program takes a developmental approach to increasing student learning and awareness about the environment. EarthCARE starts with a strong foundation at the personal and family level and moves
outward in concentric circles through the class, school, community and eventually into the world providing a gentle and powerful path to understand how everything fits together and how we are all connected.

Activities in the EarthCARE program reflect this developmental approach. With each grade level of learning, the program deepens the students' connections to the world around them.
