Areas of Focus: Number Sense and Numeration, Data Management and Probability

Activity #1:

  1. Provide students with Board data or have them find it on the website and using the data:
    • Where possible, have the students provide the exact numbers for details where percentages are used...
    • Have students estimate similar statistics for each of the categories for 05-06.
    • Have students develop a press release using the information provided to highlight the program.
  2. Given the data provided, have students explain how fractions and percentages are related. Have the students convert the percentages into fractions.
  3. Have the students use the data and compare the results by using greater than, less than or equal to.
  4. Have the students create their own problems using the data and share those problems with the class.

Activity #2:

  1. Provide the students with their school's data for the same period as the board data (most of this is available on your EC School Audit Report). Have them analyze the school data drawing comparisons and differences for sharing with the class and/or school.
  2. Based on their analysis, have the students develop appropriate plans of action to improve results in an area(s).
