Ernie's Earth - Room to Roam
In these (3) 30 min videos, well-known northern author and ecologist, Jamie Bastedo, is Ernie, the candid and enthusiastic interpreter. Ernie delves into the The Myth of Superabundance- (the belief that there is unlimited natural space out there)- and looks at how all kinds of human land uses gobble up habitats, often quite unknowingly.
Ernie details this problem but then also sets a course on 5 solutions which engage hearts and hands to embody changes in attitude about the land. These are:
- Green Mapping
- Calculating your Ecological Footprint
- Reducing the Eco-footprint with personal choices
- Reducing the Eco-footprint with community choices, and
- Protecting Space through parks, protected areas, and innovative ideas like the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative.
With on-the-scene action in Canada and the USA, animation, montage, demonstrations, and guest appearances: Dr. Brad Stelfox, shows his Calgary research on urban sprawl as an example, and 'Being Caribou' trekker Karsten Heuer, re-counts his 3400km walk from Yellowstone to Yukon, Ernie gets us thinking about what we are doing, what we can do, what we must do.
