EarthCARE Implementation

The implementation of EarthCARE in a board is planned with key people at the board in order to ensure the greatest successes. The following items are recommended components of the implementation:

  • Every school in the board has an EarthCARE Team
  • Each EarthCARE Team is supported by an EarthCARE Catalyst (a secondary student specifically trained for this role) who acts as a mentor and a coach; these students are eligible for cooperative education credits or credit towards the 40 hours volunteer service
  • Each EarthCARE Team has a Lead Teacher, a custodian, students, possibly a parent or community person, and the support of the Principal
  • EarthCARE Teams are organized into groups of 20 - 25 schools and an 'executive' team is created to monitor and assist in the organization and implementation of the program
  • All EarthCARE Teams receive training
  • The chief building operators receive training in building systems and their role in supporting the EarthCARE program
  • The school board receives support in terms of materials and training (for both the in-school teams and the building operators) and personnel (project manager, technical coordinator, trainer) as well as funding for release time of teachers and custodians for training
  • Quality assurance is implemented throughout the duration of the program
