We had another great day of training with lots of ideas for how to involve your school in EC. Among the many things we heard today:Greely: have created a tin man from cans- to encourage re-cycling/snacks are eaten inside so there's no litter on yardRockcliffe: battery and ink cartridge collection/re-cycling relay game with prizes at the end- helps students know what goes whereLePhare: electro and electra- are dogs created to support LOCO/ produced play "The Lorax"Cedarview: held a book exchange/developed an i-movie for showing in every classroom
Stephen Leacock: joint venture with the Technology Club to see how much power is used in school
Century: monthly litterless lunches/plastic bottles cut in half and used as planters
Glashan: LOCO posters- created by students as part of a competition and then winners reproduced and coloured
Fallingbrook: EC as part of Tag program/ cell phone and ink cartridge collection
Dunning Foubert; collection of Canadian Tire money- to be used to purchase plants for school gardens/play developed for school assembly
Glen Cairn: composting in classrooms to use in the atrium of the school/using scrap paper for scratch pads
Fielding drive: use styrofoam trays etc. for art activities/planning a visit to water filtration plant
Rural Cumberland: greening action- planting around the school
Munster: LOCO very active campaign/ funding a well in India
Roberta Bondar: presentations to school on LOCO and recycling
AL Cassidy: garbageless lunches/LOCO
Bayshore: unique program to assist with proper recycling- watch for an article on this project on web
Meadowlands: Bulletin Board- recognize special environmental events and then followed by a Quiz Question of the Week on what has been displayed
Pinecrest: planting trees, plants around the school
Centennial: an assembly for students created - skits, raps, songs
Adrienne Clarkson: working on an endangered tiger program
Manotick LOCO and cell phone collection
Richmond: designated classroom monitor for LOCO/monthly assembly for Safe and Caring Schools program extended to include "Care for the environment"
Fisher Park/Summit: focus on ink cartridge collection- Rainbow Recycling/walk/bike to school focus
Metcalfe: litterless lunches/recommended "Getto know.ca" as a fundraiser
Arch: LOCO and active recycling program
Roland Michner: monitors for computer lab/grade 6 is presenting musical "We've only got one planet" and each grade is to do a response to musical
