Here are SOME of the ideas from the schools in attendance this afternoon: Severn: Golden Dustpan award/switchplate covers in every classroom Knoxdale: interviewd their Chief to understand his role and find out about what they could do to help/ Fridays are gabageless lunches York: they are going to create a rainbow for their front hall that will be made out of recycled materials Queen Mary: will have their 2nd annual Chalk Motif- all the students will have chalk to draw EC pictures on their school yard Charles Hulse LOCO posters/the grade 5 class helped do the school audit Agincourt- have a spirit day once a month the theme is always to do with the environment Cambridge: has an active gardening program- they'll be planting flowers in big tubs around the school. The neighbours inthe area look after the plants and trees over the summer. Glen O.: to help keep reusable containers going home- parent suggested using medical tape and a marker to put names on containers- it doesn't come off in the dishwasher/milk cartons go home for re-cycling Leslie Park: door knob reminders on classroom doors to remember for LO/ looking at creating a butterfly garden Bayview: wrote a play (a series of skits) and a Re-cycle Shuffle Song for an assembly- the whole school sings it General Vanier- LOCO/student participation in the audit Stittsville: see the article on the main web page Sawmill Creek: have a section in the school newsletter on the environment/song developed about LOCO/ decorated grocery paper bags with EC messages for use by store for their customers Emily Carr- solar car is being developed/ extensive work on the gardens aroung the school Hopewell: students have done home energy audits/ encouraging parents to receive school newsleetter electonically (1/3 of parents do)
